Today, more jobs require postsecondary degrees and certificates than ever before, however, many people don’t pursue a degree because of cost or because traditional classroom-based programs don’t fit their busy lives.
That’s why competency-based education (CBE) programs are generating increased interest and awareness in higher education. CBE combines an intentional and transparent approach to curricular design where students acquire and demonstrate their knowledge and skills by engaging in learning exercises, activities and experiences that align with clearly defined programmatic outcomes.
At next week’s EdTalks, Dr. Charla Long, the founding dean of the College of Professional Studies at Lipscomb University and the creator of their nationally acclaimed competency-based education model and badging ecosystem, will talk about CBE and how it can provide avenues for more people to get postsecondary certification and degrees.
