Chamber comments on 2022 State of the State address

Published Monday, February 7, 2022

“The Tulsa Regional Chamber applauds Gov. Kevin Stitt’s commitment to maintaining Oklahoma’s reputation as one of the most business-friendly states in the nation. Judging by the recent growth in project activity within Tulsa’s Future—the Chamber-led regional economic development partnership—interest in Oklahoma from companies looking to relocate or expand is at an all-time high. We were delighted Canoo CEO Tony Aquila was a special guest of the governor for the address, highlighting the close partnership between that innovative company and our state. We look forward to working with the governor, his cabinet and state legislators to further strengthen our business recruitment and expansion tools to continue this momentum.

“A central part of strengthening the business climate is producing a well-trained workforce, and we appreciate the path forward outlined by the governor for increasing degree completion in high-need fields. Companies compete to hire talent in the fields of engineering and health care, and producing more teachers with higher compensation will pay dividends by bolstering Oklahoma’s public schools. We stand ready to work with the governor to increase apprenticeships and other training pathways, a priority called for in the Chamber’s OneVoice Regional Legislative Agenda.

“We applaud the governor’s continued focus on transportation and infrastructure, and his mention of burgeoning industries—such as advanced aerial mobility—in which Oklahoma is well-positioned to be a clear leader.

“In the weeks and months ahead, Gov. Stitt and state legislators will make decisions of incredible significance for current and future generations of Oklahomans. We at the Chamber are eager to work with all our elected officials to ensure northeast Oklahoma residents and businesses prosper.”
