Tulsa’s Future, the Tulsa Regional Chamber-led regional economic development partnership, plans to convene all three of its industry councils – manufacturers’, aerospace and technology – at a first-of-its-kind event on Oct. 3.
Angie Zaricor, a senior director of economic development for the Chamber, made the announcement June 12 during a Technology Council meeting at Nothing’s Left Brewing Co. in Tulsa.
A time and location for the new “Tri-Council” event is to be determined.
The Chamber conceived its industry councils to bring together sector members to network, discuss best practices and tackle issues impacting their respective industries.
Established in 2014, the Manufacturers’ Council holds six meetings a year; the Aerospace Council (established in 2020) and Technology Council each meet four times annually. Tech, the Chamber’s newest council, started in 2023 and now boasts more than 70 members.
Also at Wednesday’s meeting was Aaron Smith, an employment development representative from meeting sponsor Atlas School, gave an overview of the software engineering school.
The campus opened in partnership with the George Kaiser Family Foundation in 2020 as part of the Holberton School network, but it renamed itself in 2024 and is now fully independent.
About 200 students are enrolled currently in the 20-month program.
“Our curriculum is really cool; it’s different,” Smith said. “It’s always project-based and peer-based learning. Our goal is once you graduate from our program, you jump into a development team right away.”
Also speaking Wednesday was Tiyahna Garrett, the Chamber’s program coordinator for community development, who discussed TYPROS, the young professionals organization housed at the Chamber.
