On Wednesday, Derrick Alexander, the owner and lead financial advisor at Greater Works Wealth and the Chamber’s 2026 Small Business Connection chair, was the featured speaker at the first Mosaic meeting of the year.
He compared budgeting to a trackable business metric, or "cash flow curiosity," adding that knowing where your resources are allocated will help wealth preservation turn to wealth creation, and eventually, wealth distribution.
Changing the budgeting mindset can also help lead to budgeting behaviors, he said.
"The biggest thing is, where we spend our money is a direct reflection of what we value," Alexander said. "So, when you use a budgeting tool that visualizes, that shows you where you're putting your money, that showing you where your values are, as of today. It may be different than what we say we value."
