Two months from the nation’s signature Route 66 Centennial Celebration, Tulsa’s Route 66 Capital Cruise has passed 2,000 driver registrations.

As of Monday morning, 2,008 drivers from 36 states and Canada have registered to be a part of the largest classic car parade in history, set for May 30, 2026. This puts registrations just 483 shy of the existing record of 2,491, set in 2017.

“Capital Cruise just keeps getting bigger and bigger!” said Christian Bengel, Tulsa City Council Vice-Chair and Tulsa Route 66 Commission Chair. “Since this event was announced last summer, we have seen interest from all over the world, and (Monday's) announcement shows that excitement just keeps growing. Now it’s time to not just set the record but blow it out of the water! Capital Cruise will be a touchstone moment in the history of Route 66 for years to come.”

A portion of the drivers on May 30 will be a group from Centenarians of Oklahoma, which honors Oklahomans age 100 or older. These “100-Year Cruisers” will be Capital Cruise honorary grand marshals who will be placed at the front of the parade.

“What an honor to have Centenarians of Oklahoma included as 100-Year Cruisers during Capital Cruise,” said Terri Callaway of Centenarians of Oklahoma. “These incredible Oklahomans have seen Route 66 transform America’s landscape and it’s only fitting for them to be a part of the Mother Road’s Centennial celebration.”

Tulsa’s Route 66 Capital Cruise: World-Record Classic Car Centennial Parade will begin with the Capital Cruise Expo from 2-8 p.m. on Thursday, May 28 at Tulsa’s Expo Square with driver and volunteer registration and vendors and activations. It will continue with the May 29 Bank of Oklahoma Capital Cruise Tailgate, which includes a “tire kick” of cars on-site, live music and Tulsa Kids Marke.

On Saturday, cars will depart Expo Square starting at 8 a.m., head north on Yale Avenue and then turn west on 11th Street — Historic Route 66— for the beginning of the spectator route. The 5.5-mile route will be lined with 16 Party Zones, each with its own unique sponsor, turning parking lots into block parties all morning.

Drivers can register their car, model year 1996 or older, by clicking here, or sign up to be a volunteer here. For more information, visit capitalofroute66.com.
